Breakthrough in Carbon Fiber (E)

In the mid 1960s a technical and commercial breakthrough occurred with the development of high performance carbon fibers. A Carbon fibre is basically a very thin strand of carbon, even thinner than human hair. Though carbon fiber is stronger and stiffer than steel, it is lighter than steel and highly flexible, making it the ideal manufacturing material for developing light weight structures, specially in the fields of defense, aerospace, sports, space, and nuclear.
